Business gifts, corporate gifts and promotional gifts are all categories of gifts used by companies – yet each has its own purpose and characteristics. Understanding the difference between business gifts, corporate gifts and promotional gifts helps you choose the right gift for the right recipient.

Here is a closer look at the three types:

1. Business gifts

Purpose: strengthening relationships and fostering cooperation.

  • Business gifts are usually high-quality, personalised gifts that companies give to their clients, business partners or important contacts.
  • Their aim is to express gratitude, recognise long-term cooperation or leave a positive impression.
  • These gifts are often more luxurious and exclusive, for example quality pens, leather folders, wine sets or custom-made items.

Examples:

2. Corporate gifts

Purpose: strengthening company identity and culture.

  • Corporate gifts are aimed mainly at employees, partners or internal events.
  • Their purpose is to motivate employees, recognise achievements or strengthen teamwork.
  • These gifts can be practical and used every day, and they often carry the company logo or branding.

Examples:

  • Branded T-shirts, hoodies or water bottles.
  • Thank-you gifts for employees, such as gift cards or keepsakes for special occasions.
  • Souvenirs for team events or company summer days.

Please note: for companies registered in Estonia, gifts to employees (including gift cards) are generally taxed as fringe benefits, while a promotional gift with a logo given to a client is income-tax-free up to 21 € excl. VAT. The details are explained by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board (in Estonian).

3. Promotional gifts

Purpose: increasing brand awareness and supporting marketing.

  • Promotional gifts are usually more affordable and aimed at a wider audience, for example at trade fairs, in campaigns or at marketing events.
  • Their aim is to increase the visibility of the company's logo, message or brand.
  • These gifts are often inexpensive and feature the company logo, website or other key details.

Examples:

  • Pens, keyrings, notebooks and stickers.
  • Marketing items such as bags, caps or beach balls.
  • More affordable giveaways intended for distribution in larger quantities.
